The C Word stars Sheridan Smith as Lisa Lynch, a young woman approaching her 30s, who receives the devasting news that she has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and decides to write a blog about it. Initially, she thinks only her friends will want to read it, but they encourage her to make it available to everyone.
Sheridan Smith is definitely one of the UK’s best actresses on the box and a national treasure, and excelled in the recent Cilla – as the titular singer and entertainer – and also taking the lead in Inside No.9‘s The 12 Days of Christine, definitely the best episode of the second series. I defy you to watch that episode and NOT be affected.
Also starring Susannah Fielding, Paul Nicholls and Rebekah Staton (Raised By Wolves), this drama is written by Nicole Taylor, based on the book by Lisa Lynch, herself, and is directed by Tim Kirkby.
You can also read Lisa Lynch’s inspiring story about living with cancer here.
The C Word is broadcast this Sunday on BBC1 at 8.30pm and available to pre-order on DVD, ahead of its release date on May 11th. You can also buy Lisa Lynch’s book.
