The Floor features tons of contestants on a huge floor… 81 at a rough count – as it looks like a 9×9 grid.
The first contestant, apparently picked at random, is Shivanni, aged 27. She’s a “social media manager”. Isn’t that just “posting on the Toktik”? First, she’s up against 47-year-old Sherine, a dance teacher, which is ‘moving around a lot’.
First up is a guessing game of family movies, where the pair are against the clock, which – because she was picked first, is based upon the latter’s favourite topic. Already, the tension is… non-existent. The winner inherits their challenger’s category, and gets to challenge someone new, or take a time-out and let someone new start afresh.
The person with the most territory by the end of episode 1 will win a Floor Bonus of £5000, and overall, 8 people will leave by the end of this opener.
Other contestants include cop Joe and political advisor Stephen – so both quite lazy, then, quizzing on Great Britons, and later, come some scary eyebrows!
I learned The Floor was first aired in the USA under the same name, from January 2nd 2024. It’s obviously cheap to make, but when two contestants are up against each other, the basic content just feels like a low-end Family Fortunes. And Rob Brydon‘s on way too many things. Isn’t there someone new?
And while I don’t watch The Masked Singer, justice for Red Panda, whose Firestarter cover, from The Prodigy, was excised from the opening show, albeit for understandable reasons in the news. #BadTiming
Thanks to our friends at ITV for the screeners prior to release.
The Floor begins tomorrow night on ITV at 8pm, then airs weekly each Sunday. After broadcast, each episode will be available to stream on ITVX.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
