The Following Events Are Based On A Pack Of Lies is yet another TV drama trying to make it seem like a movie, with a 2.39:1 widescreen ratio for the image (same as The Woman In The Wall), and this one having a soundtrack for a chase film that’s trying to sound not unlike a Peter Greenaway production, like The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover.
Also told in an arty-farty style, 15 years after walking out on her, Alice Newman (Rebekah Staton – Home) finds that her ex-husband, Dr. Rob Chance (Alistair Petrie – Agatha and the Midnight Murders), is back on the scene, and after ripping her off with a property development scam, he’s now posing as a climate scientist… and we know how much they’re full of it.
Still, perhaps the talk he’s about to give will set out his stall. Either way, Alice is going to check it out to find out, but another potential victim could be in the frame, in the form of famous author Cheryl Harker (Marianne Jean-Baptiste – The Sea Beast). Either way, don’t expect the police to help, since they generally do nothing other than refer people to Action Fraud, which is as much use as a fart in a bathtub. Will that change, here?
Plus, scammers like him and Mark Pollard just need gutting like a fucking fish and pulling apart until their entrails spill out.
So far, I’ve only seen the first episode, which is a whole ball of nothing. I expect all episodes will be available on iPlayer from day one, so I’ll check out a second on there just in case, rather than as a preview, where there’s a lack of subtitles.
The Following Events Are Based On A Pack Of Lies begins on Tuesday August 29th on BBC1 at 9pm, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. After each episode, you can watch them on BBC iPlayer.
