The Game centres around retiring cop Huw Miller (Jason Watkins), who failed to catch a killer known as The Ripton Stalker, back in the day, even though he looks like he couldn’t catch a cold. And it’s typical that when you leave a workplace, no-one gives a hoot!
But YAY! Gordon Kennedy is the neighbour! He hailed from Stoneybridge! With its stony bridge!
But… BOOOO!!! He’s dead! No more stony bridges for him!
And… ugh, Miller’s wife, Alice, is played by Sunetra Sarker, because she hasn’t been on TV for five minutes.
So far, this feels like another Channel 5 drama written by AI, as new neighbour Patrick (Robson Green) uses the phrase “Catch you later…”, to Huw – after they come back from the pub, making you think he’s the baddie, even though it’s probably Mrs Miggins down the pie shop.
Still, at least so far, Robson hasn’t started singing, nor fishing in a lake.
However, he did invite all the neighbours round to his new house, even though when someone new moves into the street, this NEVER happens, because it’s not actually ‘Neighbours‘.
So far, so meh. It concluded with a helpline if you’ve been bored by this shite so far; and based on the teaser for the second episode – with Patrick’s slimy behaviour, I don’t think Robson Greene is the killer. I think he just wants to fuck Jason Watkins!
Well, at least it’s not Doctor Who.
For some reason, The Game wasn’t available in advance for review, the first Channel 5 drama in ages like this. So, it must be REALLY shit! Can it compete with Intruder, though?
