WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It!brings the wrestling event to the Playstation 2 for the first time. Look atthat picture of The Rock. You’d better take heed of what he says anddoes – he’s a film star now – even if he does look like he’s mincing aboutwith his hand upside down…

Along with him, though, there’s 35 characters in total to choose from andcompete against each other in a wealth of different matches that cover theentire spectrum of the WWF schedule, firstly by entering the Exhibitionmenu and selecting from one of the following matches: Single, Tag, 6-Man Tag,Handicap, Royal Rumble, King of the Ring, Hardcore, Falls Count Anywhere,Survival and Special.

Secondly, the Create mode allows the provision to create your ownsuperstar, a stable (i.e. your own team) and a taunt (the trademark movesyou can use towards an opponent in the ring). Always wanted to dress up TheRock with some long hair and a g-string? Now’s your chance.

  • logoThe graphics look a lot better here than they used to on the PS2, but I stillhave a few reservations about the movement which I’ll discuss shortly. Thegame characters actually look like who they’re meant to, with much betterbody definition – and each game starts with a FMV walk-on from each WWF startaking part.

Sound-wise, it’s loud and proud with commentary along the way. You’ve seen theshows, you know the drill. It never deviates from the norm though, so there’sno surprises here.

Like the original Playstation game, the biggest problem is down to the gameplay.Perhaps it’ll take a fair bit of learning here, but I get more success justbanging away at the buttons because when I do try to position myself and makeintended moves they don’t always come off. This can be frustrating as it makesyou wonder if you’re actually in total control of the character.

Despite the wealth of options and availability of characters, the actualbasis of the game doesn’t feel worth £44.99. If you’re a fan and canget it for around £30 that would be about right.
