Ni No Kuni on PS3 – The DVDfever Review

ni-no-kuni

Ni No Kuni is a game like no other. It’s made by Studio Ghibli, and if your wondering who they are, they make touching Anime films including Sprited Away and The Wind Rises.

The main character in the story is a young boy called Oliver who loses his mother and wants to catch the bad person who committed that crime in order to get his. He has wizard-like powers, reminding me slightly of Harry Potter. At first, you’ll think this game is for kids with the cartoon style, but as soon as you get into the story you will soon realise this isn’t the case.

The characters in this game are called ‘familiars’, whom you take along with you on your journey, and they’ll level up with you. This actually reminds me of the Pokemon series!

The graphics are second to none. They’re fabulous, very colourful and clear. The cut scenes are excellent and help you to really follow the story, looking forward to seeing what Oliver can explore next.

The battle system is very reminiscent of RPG games such as Pokemon. For example, you can interact with creatures you capture during battle. In addition to your familiars, you can use magical powers to defeat your enemies such as Fireball etc.

Ni No Kuni is a truly unique game, and one I really enjoyed, getting to know all of my characters and visiting various towns along the way. The voice acting in the game is excellent, with realistic accents, including Welsh. Pretty cool!

Studio Ghibli is also a great animation company, and I hope they are part of some more games soon.
