Rowdy Roddy Piper, the great wrestling legend, sadly passed away peacefully in his sleep, the opposite of how he lived his life as a force of nature who wore a kilt and famously smashed ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka in the head with a coconut on television in July 1984. Piper was a pro-wrestler, known as much for his boisterous mouth as for his skill in the ring and was the reigning king of wrestling from 1973-1987 in the NWA, Pacific Northwest, California and most notably in the WWF in the 1980s.
His final interview was on the set of the new horror film, The Chair, in which he plays a vicious guard named Murphy. Piper was interviewed on set by Robert “Corpsy” Rhine from the magazine Girls and Corpses, who also stars in the movie and is one of the executive producers.
The Chair is directed by Chad Ferrin and producer by Peter Semeti, and Piper has appeared in other horror films such as John Carpenter’s 1988 cult classic They Live
Based on the Alterna Comics graphic novel of the same name, The Chair follows the story of Richard Sullivan, an innocent man struggling to escape execution on death row. Witnessing the savage killings of his fellow inmates at the hand of the prison’s sadistic and psychotic Warden, Sullivan decides that the only way to survive is to fight back. But as he matches the brutality occuring in the prison, Sullivan is forced to come face to face with his sanity and his own horrifying past.
Notable title wins include: NWA Americas champion (Los Angeles); NWA Americas Tag titles (Los Angeles); NWA US Champion (San Francisco); NWA Pacific Northwest tag champion (4); NWA Pacific Northwest champion (2); Canadian Tag (Vancouver) w/ Rick Martel; NWA Mid-Atlantic TV champion (2); NWA US champion (Mid-Atlantic) (2) NWA Mid-Atlantic champion; WWF Intercontinental champion; WCW United States Title. Inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Fame in 2005.
