A Tale of Love and Darkness tells the story about the childhood of Amos Oz (Amir Tessler), in Jerusalem, and his youth in the Kibbutz during the British Mandate and the first days of the state of Israel, describing the relationship between young Oz to his mother and his first steps as a writer.
With the dialogue in French, this movie marks the full-length directorial debut of Natalie Portman, who also wrote the script based on the memoir by Amos Oz. The film also stars Shira Haas, Ohad Knoller and Makram Khoury.
While it doesn’t instantly grab me, there’s a potential to this film, so perhaps one to check out.
A Tale of Love and Darkness is released on September 3rd in Israel, and August 19th in the US, but as of yet there’s no UK date.
