Agnosia

WHEN PERCEPTION ISN’T REALITY…

“Wonderful-looking film” – Variety
“Beautifully shot…the film defies expectations” — twitchfilm.com

The baroque retro-futuristic Spanish thriller Agnosia is released on DVD on 30 May 2011 by Momentum Pictures. From the producers of Pan’s Labyrinth and The Orphanage comes this stunning piece of Spanish cinema, following on from its UK debut at April’s London Spanish Film Festival.

Directed by Guillermo Del Toro‘s protégé Eugenio Mira (The Birthday), and written by Antonio Trashorras (The Devil’s Backbone), Agnosia stars Martina Gedeck (The Lives of Others, Baader Meinhof Complex) and Eduardo Noriega (Open Your Eyes, The Devil’s Backbone).

Joana Prats (Barbara Goenaga) suffers from AGNOSIA, a strange neuropyhsiological illness that affects her perception. Although her eyes and ears are in perfect condition, her brain cannot interpret the stimuli she receives through them.

As the only one who knows the industrial secret left behind by her father after his violent death, the enigmatic young girl becomes the victim of a sinister plan. Whilst the plot unfolds, the two men closest to her will become crucial to the outcome: Carles (Noriega), Joana’: fiance and her father’s right hand man, and Vicent (Félix Gomez), a young, impulsive servant who falls in love with Joana whilst working at the Prat’s mansion. Will Joana fall prey to the plan of deception or will she prove to be stronger than anticipated?

Set against an elegant back drop, Agnosia brings together the finest in Spanish cinema for a story of love, deception and sinister confusion.
