All You Need Is Kill is basically Edge of Tomorrow in anime form.
Earth has been infected… or is it a dream?
Something called Darol has appeared, which looked like a pyroclastic cloud, but is actually a huge alien plant, which arrived on Earth one year ago, and has laid dormant until now… so, a bit like Tom Cruise’s War Of The Worlds remake, then.
To everyone’s annoyance, monsters com out of it, killing everyone including lead heroine Rita Vrataski (Ai Mikami)… so she wakes up, and finds the day restarting. As things go on, she finds she’s the only one it’s happening so, thus gets frustrated that no-one else is experiencing this…
Until, unlike Cruise’s aforementioned time-based film, she finally meets a man in the same position, Keiji Kiriya (Natsuki Hanae).
However, even though this is only a relatively short anime movie – at 82 minutes – it still goes on longer than it needs to, and does get a bit exhausting, in spite of what’s enjoyable in there. Still, it’s worth a watch.
There are no mid- or post-credit scenes.
All You Need Is Kill is in cinemas now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
However, you can buy many of the Anime novels here.
