Ark Survival Evolved FREE! Snake Pass FREE! Samurai Shodown FREE!
Yes, it’s time for some more free games. As it’s Thursday, it’s another free game day on the Epic Games Store, and from today until 4pm UK time next Thursday, it’s the survival game Ark Survival Evolved. Also, thanks to DVDfever reviewer Iain Metcalf for the heads-up that Snake Pass is also available now for free, but only until Sunday at 6pm UK time at the latest, since they only have a finite number to give away, so claim them now!
And there’s more: I missed that Samurai Shodown: NeoGeo Collection is also free at the moment on the Epic Games Store, so thanks to Iain for that as well. But how to claim all these games?
First up: what are these games about?
Ark Survival Evolved synopsis: This is an action-adventure survival video game in which players must survive being stranded on an island filled with roaming dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, natural hazards, and potentially hostile human players. The game is played from either a third-person or first-person perspective and its open world is navigated on foot or by riding a prehistoric animal. Players can use firearms and improvised weapons to defend against hostile humans and creatures, with the ability to build bases as defense on the ground and on some creatures. As well as single-player, multiplayer allows the option to form tribes of members in a server. The maximum number of tribe mates varies from each server. In this mode, all tamed dinosaurs and building structures are usually shared between the members. There is also a PvE mode where players cannot fight each other.
Samurai Shodown: NeoGeo Collection: The ULTIMATE collection is here! Six NEOGEO titles as well as one mysterious, unreleased game are featured! Featuring Online Battle Modes as well as a Museum Mode and Music Player. This collection is a must-have for all Samurai Shodown SAMURAI SHODOWN fans across the globe!
Snake Pass synopsis: Doodle finds that a mysterious intruder is stealing the Keystones that allow travel in the gates between the lands. She wakes Noodle and together they set off to find the intruder, traveling to the top of Haven Tor along the way. In each of the worlds they see big black feathers and a large flying figure along the way. At the end of each world, the ruler of that realm thanks Noodle and Doodle and gives them a treasure. At the end of the final realm, they see that the magpie was looking for something shiny in order to reopen a portal to take them home. In approaching the bird, the 4 gifts given to Noodle and Doodle from the ruler of each realm work as keys and reveal “the Great Shiny.” It then activates the portal which allows the bird to go home.
So, how to claim these games for free?
First up: Ark Survival Evolved: Bring up the Epic Games Launcher (available from epicgames.com if you haven’t got it already), then go to Store, and you’ll see he game. Below the trailer and information about it, you’ll see the word ‘Get’ where the price is. Then, when the next screen comes up, click on ‘Place Order’… even though it’s free, then “I agree”. Along the way, it may also ask if you want to give your email address to the makers of the game for their mailing list, but this is a choice, rather than a requirement. There’s a load of free DLC available as well, so you can repeat the process for those as well.
The same process applies for Samurai Shodown: NeoGeo Collection, and it also expires on June 18th 2020 at 4pm UK time.
Then, for Snake Pass, go to Humble Bundle, log in, click ‘get the game’ and follow the prompts to get your Steam key, which you can then redeem in Steam. Humble Bundle always give me a bit of a runaround to get to the actual game part, but stick with it.
