A long weekend, aka Easter, is now just one week away, and there’s some great films out this weekend, plus at least one stinker.
This week’s selections are: Calvary, The Raid: Retaliation (aka The Raid 2: Berandal), The Quiet Ones, Night Moves and Son of God.
Calvary
After he is threatened during a confession, a good-natured priest must battle the dark forces closing in around him.
Starring Brendan Gleeson in the lead role, plus Chris O’Dowd, Kelly Reilly, Aidan Gillen, Dylan Moran, M. Emmet Walsh and Domhnall Gleeson, this is written and directed by John Michael McDonagh, who was also behind The Guard shown last weekend on Channel 4, and it’s a wonderful comedy.
Also Brendan Gleeson is always worth a watch and he’s a million times better than his Irish counterpart Liam Neeson.
Hit or Miss? Verdict: Hit!
The Raid: Retaliation
Only a short time after the first raid, Rama goes undercover with the thugs of Jakarta and plans to bring down the syndicate and uncover the corruption within his police force.
It’s the sequel to The Raid! It’s a must-see!! Just like the first film!!
Hit or Miss? Verdict: Hit!
The Quiet Ones
The Quiet Ones is a new horror movie about a University physics professor who assembles a team to help create a poltergeist.
Starring Jared Harris, Olivia Cooke, Erin Richards and Sam Claflin from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the trailer is as bizarre as you’d expect, but it looks like it’s worth a watch.
Hit or Miss? Verdict: Hit!
Night Moves
Night Moves stars Dakota Fanning, Jesse Eisenberg, Alia Shawkat, Peter Sarsgaard and James Le Gros, and is due for release in the UK on August 29th.

Son of God
The life story of Jesus is told from his humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection
With all this religious stuff, anyone would think it was Easter! The film stars Diogo Morgado as Jesus, plus Louise Delamere, David Rintoul and William Houston.
