My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of DEXTER: RESURRECTION!

Dexter: Resurrection Dexter: Resurrection leads on directly from Dexter: New Blood‘s finale.

Well, we’ve already seen at the start of Dexter: Original Sin how Michael C Hall‘s character was saved in the emergency room, but after 10 weeks in hospital – and in a coma, part of his journey is continuing, while another is just begnining, although as part of his physical recovery in the hospital, he comments to the orderly, “I’m not used to being on a table, with someone over me”.

However, he’s only been out of the hospital five minutes, and he’s already thinking about killing someone! And it’s another serial killer, and who is referred to the locals as the ‘Dark Passenger’. That sounds a bit familiar…

Oh, and yes, you do rather have to stretch credibility that someone can be up and about, after lying in a hospital bed for over two months, just after being shot in the chest! But then, this is Dexter, and stretching credibility has happened aplenty over eight series, Dexter: New Blood and Dexter: Original Sin! 😀

Harrison’s (Jack Alcott) been away from his Dad for 10 weeks, but without giving any spoilers, it’s obvious the part of Harry’s code that instills right from wrong stays within him. For a career, he’s working as a concierge in a New York hotel. There’s reference to the cleaning of a Room 237, which to me, is obviously a reference to a particular Jack Nicholson film, but don’t worry, there’s no Shining shenanigans going on! It’s just something for movie nerds only!

Similarly, at one point when Harrison wakes up at 2.22am, after dreaming of Dexter and thinking he’s dead, is it a reference to 2:22 A Ghost Story?

Harry appears to Dexter again, with James Remar (Transformers One) returning in the role we first saw in the original series, and with no sign of Debra in this one. I know there was a lot of criticism of how the final Dexter episode finished in 2013, so perhaps there was blowback on the same level for Debra taking Harry’s place in Dexter: New Blood, hence why Harry’s back?

As an aside, the subtitles appear to show that around 27 minutes in, there should be a flashback scene involving his ex, Angela, since for the character who comes to visit Dexter, it relates to their conversation. But this wasn’t in the screener and thus I don’t yet know whether it’s in the final version of the episode. When it goes live in 24 hours from now, I’ll be able to check.

There’s a lot I cannot say, as I obviously don’t want to give spoilers, but it’s safe to say that we do get some fan service which DOES work, and isn’t just thrown in for the hell of it. I won’t list any names here, but I’ll just say to avoid reading Wikipedia before you get this series on YOUR table 🙂

Dexter: Resurrection IS enjoyable, but as you get older, you do start to wonder at what point Dexter will decide bumping baddies off is not for him, and he just fancies a quite life… Okay, he tried some of that before, and his past caught up with him. This is the point where I remind myself it’s a TV drama and not reality 😉

Thanks to our friends at Paramount+ for the screeners prior to release.

Dexter: Resurrection is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Paramount+ from tomorrow.
