Electro Velvet – Still In Love With You – UK entry for 2015 Eurovision Song Contest

electro-velvetElectro Velvet are the UK’s entry for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with Still In Love With You, an ‘electro swing’ track mixing modern-day synth with 1920s-type music and features the vocals of Alex Larke and the stunning Bianca Nicholas.

Bianca Nicholas has previously appeared on both The X Factor and The Voice UK, she previously released a single, “Hold On To Your Dreams”, had a small part in Tim Burton’s 1999 Johnny Depp movie Sleepy Hollow, and also suffers from Cystic fibrosis.

The BBC used to have a show where the public could decide which single gets to represent the UK for the contest, but this was dropped some time ago. Chances are, we’ll never win again thanks to taking part in bombing Iraq – well, the whole event is extremely political. However, we give a significant amount of funding to the show and it’s an enjoyable piece of nonsense for a Saturday evening with an engaging commentary from Graham Norton, having taken over from Terry Wogan in 2009.

Still In Love With You is kinda catchy in the same way that Scatman John‘s Scatman song was, back in 1995, and while I hated this new song the first time I heard it, it’s rather growing on me. I can see how it’s definitely a ‘Marmite’ song, meaning you either love or hate something.

Can Electro Velvet win for the UK? Well, no, but apparently there are a lot of ballads in this year’s contest so it’ll be interesting to see how it fares when the show is presented from the Wiener Stadthalle, Vienna, Austria on Saturday May 23rd.
