My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of FUZE!

Fuze Fuze… Danger UXB! IT’s a World War II bomb!

And since it’s taking place in a building site, there’s a fair amount of workspace for Major Will Tranter (Aaron Taylor-Johnson28 Years Later) and his crew to work with it, in a bid to make it safe.

Nearby, and taking advantage of the fact that the power has been cut from the area, taking their cue from Die Hard, Theo James (The Monkey) and Sam Worthington (Avatar: Fire And Ash) lead a gang of bank robbers, using names like ‘G’ and ‘X’, while Zuzana (Gugu Mbatha-RawThe War Between The Land And The Sea) works in the copshop, overseeing the operation, the fuzz being initially unaware of the robbery.

What seems like a relatively simple case for the army is complicated by the device having a second fuze (yes, the ‘z’ is correct), with a timer, ticking down, even though it’s an 80-year-old bomb. Still, thanks to that, it’ll take a few hours to sort out a controlled explosion, so they want the cops to supply some pizza while they work. Bonus!

The bomb is only part of the story, however, and once the cops twig that the nearby thieves are in the vicinity, that also adds to the complication… as does trying to decipher Theo’s dodgy South African accent, but he does know a lot about the diamonds they just stole, so he has a use.

And will Mr James be the next James Bond? You never know!

Fuze does get a bit twisty-turny as it goes along, bringing in elements I wasn’t expecting, but I did enjoy this, and it’s worth a watch on the big screen. It also doesn’t outstay its welcome, given that it’s around just 90 minutes before the end credits kick in. I wish more films would be that strict.

Just one slight moan. When you transfer money from one bank account to another, it’s only in films where the money transfers across counting up from zero to the full amount. Same goes for anyone transferring data from a computer, where there’s a uniform counter from 0 to 100%, never stopping along the way for no apparent reason (Microsoft Windows, I’m looking at you!)

NOTE: There are no mid- nor post-credits scenes.

Fuze is in cinemas now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
