In The Fade leads the new cinema releases and trailers June 22nd 2018

In The Fade This week, there are FOUR new films out for you to choose from: Diane Kruger seeks revenge in In The Fade, ‘Mrs Sting’ – aka Trudie Styler – makes her directorial debut with Freak Show, the answers may or may not be found through Kissing Candice, and Hollywood runs out of ideas again with a remake of Goldie Hawn’s Overboard.

Oceans 8 was covered in last week’s round-up, as it was released on Monday this week.

In the Fade centres around Katja (Diane Kruger), whose life collapses after the death of her husband and six-year-old son in a bomb attack, but who would target the man? After a time of mourning and injustice, Katja seeks revenge.

This looks like a cracking drama and has had great critical acclaim, so I’m really looking forward to this.

Writer/Director: Fatih Akin
Novel: Hark Bohm
Also stars: Denis Moschitto, Numan Acar, Samia Muriel Chancrin, Johannes Krisch, Ulrich Tukur

Hit or Miss? Verdict: Hit!

Freak Show follows the story of teenager Billy Bloom (Alex Lawther) who, despite attending an ultra conservative high school, makes the decision to run for homecoming queen.

I wasn’t expecting a huge amount, but I really like the look of this, and it does seem like a good watch.

Director: Trudie Styler
Also stars: Bette Midler, Abigail Breslin, AnnaSophia Robb, Laverne Cox, Celia Weston

Hit or Miss? Verdict: Hit!

Kissing Candice

17 year old Candice longs to escape her seaside town and finds solace in her imagination. When her disillusionment calcifies into an obsession with a troubled stranger, she becomes entangled with a dangerous local gang.

This might be okay, but the dialogue was all muffled in the trailer, so you’d need subtitles, in order to save getting a headache.

Writer/Director: Aoife McArdle
Starring: Ann Skelly, Ryan McParland, Conall Keating, John Lynch, Maghnús Foy

Hit or Miss? Verdict: Maybe!

Overboard 2018 shows Hollywood’s well of ideas has run dry yet again, as they’ve made a remake of the so-so 1987 comedy which starred Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

This time round, Leonardo (Eugenio Derbez) is a spoiled and wealthy yacht owner, who is thrown overboard and becomes the target of revenge from his mistreated employee, Kate (Anna Faris).

Between the two trailers I’ve seen, it doesn’t look completely terrible, but I feel I’ve seen enough not to have to bother with the full film.

Writer/Directors: Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg
Also stars: Eva Longoria, Swoosie Kurtz, John Hannah, Josh Segarra, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Mel Rodriguez, Emily Maddison

Hit or Miss? Verdict: Miss!
