Jubilee Day…

Jubilee DayA lot of people are celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee today. I am not.

We live in a different world than we did in the 70s and there are people like myself who just don’t see the relevance of the Royal Family. As much as I hate politicians, I don’t see why my taxes should be spent on a family that’s been born into such opulent luxury.

If I have a problem with my house, for example, I have to pay for it. If they have a problem with their house, it seems I often have to pay for that, too.

David Cameron talked this morning about how he sits down to talk with the Queen for an hour each week. I’m not sure what this achieves other than two friends having a chat. At our expense.

Add to this, the BBC’s sense of self-satisfaction about the whole event (same went for the Royal Wedding and also the Olympics, neither of which I’m interested in), along with all the non-news stories where William & Kate went to visit a school in Somewhere. We also hear about the other lad going to fight in a war we shouldn’t be in. I don’t see all the other soldiers getting such coverage. The only time you hear their names is if they’re unlucky enough to get read out during Prime Minister’s Questions, as there’s only one reason that happens.

My parents love the Royal Family (my Mum has bunting all around her house front and garden) but they have no relevance to my life. However, give me an unlimited bank account and I’ll dress up and go and smile at people for the day.
