My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of KANGAROO!

KangarooKangaroo Kangaroo

Kangaroo: You’ve seen Dances With Wolves… now watch Running With CGI Kangaroos!

And the film opens with indigeonous teenager Charlie (Lily Whiteley) running alongside the titular marsupials, in case you didn’t know what one was.

But back in the big city, weatherman Chris Masterman (Ryan Corr) wants to move into Breakfast TV, but while trying to show off in public, he accidentally hastens the death of a dolphin, yet gets accused of killing it and somehow is out on his ear the next day.

Well, thanks to the power of social media, the script ignores the fact that his Union would have a field day with that one, because instead, he might just have a new job elsewhere far away, yet his car is brought to a halt in the back of beyond because he accidentally runs over one of these creatures in the outback and delivers her baby… albeit with no afterbirth mess… because this is only a PG-certificate.

Although this is based upon the true story of Chris ‘Brolga’ Barns, the founder of The Kangaroo Sanctuary – including showing a recreation of him having a boxing fight with a kangaroo, the one selected for this shows some very obvious CGI, because it’s seen hopping away through long grass… which isn’t disturbed in any way. Even AI could manage that!

However, while I was amused by the moment when a Deliverance joke is thrown in – after someone mentions a boat race, there is some casual misandry in the script as Chris is told by a woman, “You can keep your shirt on… for now“.

Kangaroo runs on far too long at 107 minutes, since the whole film is TV-movie quality and should’ve been left to streaming, not least for the poor script when even though he didn’t actually kill the dolphin, he’s called a “fish-killer“… even though they’re actually mammals.

In fact, it’s basically Doc Hollywood, as bloke is on the way to a new job, but something happens in the back of beyond and he gets stuck there.

NOTE: There are no mid- nor post-credits scenes, but we are shown pictures of the real Chris Barns and some info about the Kangaroo Society.

Kangaroo is in cinemas now, and is available to pre-order on Blu-ray and DVD, ahead of its release TBA.

NOTE: There is a mid- and post-credit scene, as per the video below.
