Kingdom Of The Dead is a hand-drawn animated game that’s like DOOM in black and white, but shooting at skeleton-like creatures… well, they are undead… and once they lock-on to you, they’re unlikely to let go!
First, I love the cool ’80s-style synth music, but for some time, I realised I was rather rubbish at this game 😉
However, there are some problems with it. Firstly, I like to use a controller for this sort of game, but for this, it became easier to use the controller’s left joystick to move around, and the mouse to aim and fire.
Also, after completing a level, it never actually saves your game. Oh, and why do I have to tell the game I want inverted Y-axis on the controller EVERY single time after I die? That’s a glitch which could easily be fixed.
After a few hours of playing this over a couple of days, I went back into it the following day, it stopped working with the controller. Rebinding some controls sort-of worked – but not for all directions. However, since I didn’t need to do that initially, I don’t know why it just stopped working altogether with it. If they can fix this, so I can use the controller again, I’ll get back into it.
Hence, class this as ‘first impressions’ because I couldn’t get any further with it, which is a shame.
Kingdom Of The Dead is out now on PC/Steam. Checkout the gameplay below, while it was still working.
