My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of LIONESS SERIES 2 on Paramount+!

Lioness Series 2 Lioness Series 2… yes, they’ve dropped the “Special Ops” moniker at the start, this time round, and coming just 15 months after the first series, but it’s still the same programme with Joe (Zoe SaldanaGuardians of the Galaxy Vol.3) leading her SOCOM team into the great unknown.

The opener briefly takes in one of those missions where it’s merely a taster to get back into the series, as the team rescue a Congresswoman, but it’s done in a neat way as they stealthily enter a house, pop off any dim-witted pendejos, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over.

However, it does make you wonder how someone like this could carry out such a job, when the events are covered by CNN… but then they make everything up, anyway.

This time round, the CIA needs to put a Lioness in the field, in the form of part-Mexican Captain Josephina Carrillo (Genesis RodriguezThe Last Stand), the ultimate target being a Chinese agent with the Ministry of State Security, but at the same time, her uncle has a questionable history, so who can you trust?

Seriously, though, while this is a pretty engaging series with decent performances when it counts from all concerned, each episode does rather go on, and pads out to around 45-50 minutes apiece when there’s only around 15 minutes in each that I’d consider essential.

As a few asides so far…

  • There is a moment at the start in episode 2 when Nicole Kidman takes a swig of coffee out of a mug, but as the accidental cack-handed way of holding it up to her mouth shows, along with her pretending to have drunk some, it’s obviously empty.

  • Plus, in episode 3 when she’s at home, why is she still wearing her high heels about the place? They’ll ruin the floorboards!

  • Episode 3 also shows Joe getting home, and still wearing her outdoor shoes by the time she’s got to the bathroom! Take them off once you get in the door!!!

  • And of the important aspects, although women’s buttocks are occasionally on display, heaven forfend if they were to show female nipples!

Thanks to our friends at Paramount+ for the screener prior to release.

Lioness Series 2 is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Paramount+ from Sunday October 27th. There are two episodes initially, with further episodes added weekly.
