Maleficent tells the tale of Sleeping Beauty, told from the perspective of the titular villain, played by Angelina Jolie, looking at the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse young Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning). Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora.
As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realises that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.
Also starring Juno Temple, Sharlto Copley, Brenton Thwaites, Peter Capaldi, Miranda Richardson, Imelda Staunton, Sam Riley and Lesley Manville, Maleficent is released now on all formats…
However, like last week’s Edge of Tomorrow, a 3D version was made out of the 2D version, but the film was NOT shot in 3D, so DO NOT pay extra for the 3D version. Maleficent was also shown on IMAX screens, despite none of it being shot in IMAX! What a con!
Northern Soul
Northern Soul is the story of a youth culture in the 1970s which changed a generation. It tells the tale of a nightclub based movement which developed in Northern England . The film is an authentic and uplifting account of two young boys whose horizons are opened up by the discovery of black American soul music.
No longer satisfied with the prospect of a small town life and a factory production lin , they dream of going to America to discover super rare records which will help them become the best DJs on the Northern Soul scene. The difficult journey forces the two best friends to confront rivalry, violence and drug abuse as their friendship and loyalties are tested to the limit.
Starring Antonia Thomas, Steve Coogan, Christian McKay, Ricky Tomlinson, James Lance, John Thomson, Ashley Taylor Dawson and Lisa Stansfield, this looks a superb comedy/drama and well worth a viewing.
20000 Days On Earth
Writer and musician Nick Cave marks his 20,000th day on the planet Earth. Drama and reality combine in a fictitious 24 hours in the life of musician and international cultural icon Nick Cave. With startlingly frank insights and an intimate portrayal of the artistic process, the film examines what makes us who we are, and celebrates the transformative power of the creative spirit
Starring Nick Cave (obviously), Susie Cave, Warren Ellis, Darian Leader, Ray Winstone and Kylie Minogue, I don’t know a great amount of his music, but this does look fascinating.

A highlight of the film are ingenious and accurate recreations of the pioneering techniques used in the productions.
