Mincemeat – On The Edge Series 3 Episode 1 – The DVDfever Review – Channel 4 drama

Mincemeat Mincemeat is the first episode of On The Edge Series 3, and begins with Jane (Aimee Lou Wood) in the supermarket with her mother, Carol (Rosie Cavaliero), who’s buying sausages and other meat products like they’re going out of fashion.

So, it’s not a great outcome for the latter, when Aimee decides she’s a vegtatarian, just as mum’s cooking stew, and has bought a birthday cake for their late father. Similarly, another time, she cooks spaghetti bolognese, so basically, the titular mincemeat is included with everything.

A chance encounter at work reunites her with Nish (Nikhil Parmar) from school, who’s soon off to University. Alas, her mum’s a massive racist – which Aimee realises when she spots her mum’s been looking up Britain First-type organisations online – and that might just throw a spanner in the works of their budding relationship.

Seeing Carol overbuying items at the supermarket to the point where the kitchen’s full, and the rest of the house is a hoarder’s paradise, it does make you wonder how long it’ll be before there’s a knock on the front door, and Channel 5 turn up, wanting to make a documentary.

Overall, Mincemeat is quite amusing in places, and very entertaining to watch, as both Aimee and her mum seem to be on a different planet – from us and each other, but it’s too short to tell the full story. This one could’ve run for twice its length. Aimee is clearly wanting to break out of the situation she’s in, along with the state of the house her mother has made it, so it would be good to see how things go on from here.

Mincemeat is broadcast tonight on Channel 4 at 10pm. The series is not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD.

After broadcast, the series will be on All 4.

There’s no Series 3 trailer online, so I’ve given the Series 2 trailer below.
