Murder Mystery 2 is obviously the sequel to 2019’s Murder Mystery, which… I have to confess, I haven’t yet seen. Given that it features murders, I hope I’m not bumped off as a result.
However, this new film does give us a ‘Last time on…’ summary, and quite a few people were done for, it seems. They also seem to have marital issues, which must be an impossibility if you’re married to Jennifer Aniston…
However, it’s time for a holiday, as Vikram, The Maharajah (Adeel Akhtar – Sherwood), is getting married to Claudette (Mélanie Laurent – The Mad Woman’s Ball). Nick’s (Adam Sandler – Hustle) bringing business cards which also double as a way to floss your teeth – with the words “Don’t Floss, just Spitz”, while Audrey (Aniston – The Morning Show) is clearly aping Alan Partridge’s ‘big plate’ ideal, so she can get the most out of the buffet.
Add in sex-mad Francisco (Enrique Arce – Terminator: Dark Fate), plus Jodie Turner-Smith (Anne Boleyn) as Countess Sekou, Vikram’s ex-fiancee and Claudette’s former roommate, and before long – and without Inspector Taggart being available, there’s been a murder!
Oh, and the bridegroom is kidnapped.
Mark Strong (Temple) plays Mark Strong, as Connor Miller, a hostage negotiator, who arrives in a rather unconventional way, as you’ll discover, and when there’s a knock on the door – and we’ve been told “murderers don’t knock” – Nick quips to Audrey, “Don’t you want it to be the killer? I am so sick of this shit”. Well, it certainly is far from the best film you’ll see all year.
Murder Mystery 2 passes 90 minutes by, but then so does just sitting on a chair for 90 minutes. There aren’t any jokes which particularly stand out, and haven’t been heard before; and later, jokes are replaced by shouting.
However, there’s reference to Jennifer Aniston needing 30 towels every time she takes a shower… Ooh, eck!
Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.
Murder Mystery 2 is on Netflix from March 31st, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD.
