news page picLogoFree TV – clean up the DOG mess…

Bugs,,, DOGs… there are different names for the endless onscreen logos thatare appearing on our TV screens unnecessarily. You don’t need DOGs (Digitally-OriginatedGraphics) to tell you what channel you’re watching unless you’re likeself-confessed “lazy slob” Stuart Murphy, BBC Choice controller (seeAndrew Wiseman’s 625 page.

If you have digital TV, the digibox TELLS you what channel you’re watchingat the press of a button. You don’t need “BBC Choice” placed in the middleof the screen 24 hours a day, or revolving nonsense all over MTV, or the head-updisplay of a fighter pilot’s cockpit in the form of BBC News 24, so why do thebroadcasters insist on this branding crap?

Because they’re inadequate themselves and one website, www.logofreetv.org.uk, has been set up withthe aim of ridding our screens of this horror once and for all. Please give ityour support by visiting the site when you click on the logo (above-right),reading the press release and signing the petition.

And if you have a plasma TV you should be doubly-concerned as these thingscause screen burn-in more than anything else.

Personally, I don’t like things like this changing, or TV schedules beingdisrupted by cancelling films just because of an event in the news, as it wasnot the intention of DM’s creators to blow up the World Trade Center, but suchis the errand of political correctness.
