Freeview has launched…
Almost exactly six months ago, ITV Digital closed. In its place comesa joint venture from BBC and Sky, Freeview, another batch of 30-or-sodigital TV channels that come down your aerial, but don’t cost anything onceyou’ve bought your digibox.
Don’t expect to see the likes of Sky One or E4 amongst themsince there’s no subscription charges, but on the other hand it does includethe new UK History and some of the digital-only radio stations suchas the BBC’s 1 Xtra, 6 Music and BBC 7 (For those with a Nokiadigibox, you can turn off the screen-filling and TV-screen killing logos bypressing exit).
Those who still have their digibox from ITV Digital can watch these channels, but it’s still in doubt as to whether the administrators will attempt toreclaim them now that ITV Digital has been liquidated.
For more information on Freeview, visit theofficial Freeview website.
ITV has become 1…
No, not that the channel has been renamed ITV1, as that happeneda few months ago, but without a fanfare, all the individual remaining regionssuch as Granada and Carlton have disappeared and merged into one facelesscorporation, ITV1.
Before programmes you’ll notice crass new idents featuring such luminariesas Geri Halliwell, Davina and Katie Derham, but no room for John Leslie orMichael Barrymore, unsurprisingly(!)
Living in Manchester, Granada has become ITV1 North West, yet itsregional news programme, Granada Reports still remains.
Apparently ITV1 have spent £700,000 on 100 idents such as the onesdescribed above. Perhaps they should realise that it’s not rebranding thechannel needs, but some decent bloody programmes, if they want to win viewersback and increase their advertising revenue. Idiots.
For more information on ITV1, visit theofficial ITV1 website.
