October 25th :It’s all backwards for Guy Pearce in Memento on Blu-ray…
Out now:
For years I’d heard about what a great film this was, but just hadn’t got round to seeing it. I know already whata great actor Guy Pearce is, from his work which includes The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desertand L.A. Confidential and what a visionary director Christopher Nolan is following the excellent… erm…Following, Insomnia and the first two films of the new Batman series (I’ve yet to see Inceptionbut it looks magnificent from the clips I’ve seen).
Told in reverse order, Leonard Shelby is a man who needs to find the man who killed his wife, but it’s not easywhen your memory is shot following an incident which happened at the same time. Pearce is joined by Carrie-AnneMoss, Joe Pantoliano and Stephen Tobolowsky.
Mementois online and out now on Blu-ray and DVD.
The Lawnmower Man gets a dual-DVD release today…
Released today:
The Lawnmower Man understandably had a hard time on its cinema release when Stephen King, the author, wanted hisname removed from the credits. The film, starring Jeff Fahey and Pierce Brosnan certainly has itsmerits, but even in this director’s cut form, and with a bonus DVD that contains the sequel, there are so manyreasons why you should NOT buy this package.
The Lawnmower Man 1 & 2is online and out from today on DVD.

From executive producers Hart Hanson, Barry Josephson and Stephen Nathan comes the fifth exciting season of Bones, a darkly amusing procedural with humor, heart and character, inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and novelist Kathy Reichs.
Dr Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) is a highly skilled forensic anthropologist who works at the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington, DC, and writes novels as a sideline. If the standard methods of identifying a body are useless – when the remains are so badly decomposed, burned or destroyed that CSI gives up – law enforcement calls in Brennan for her uncanny ability to read clues left behind in the victim’s bones.
Most law enforcement can’t handle Brennan’s intelligence, her drive for the truth, or the way she flings herself headlong into every investigation. Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) of the FBI’s Homicide Investigations Unit is the exception. A former Army sniper, Booth mistrusts science and scientists – the “squints,” as he calls them, who pore over the physical evidence of a crime. But even he cannot deny that the combination of his intuition and Brennan’s scientific acumen makes them a formidable team.
Apart from Booth, Brennan is most comfortable with her equally brilliant colleagues at the Jeffersonian’s Medico-Legal Lab. Angela Montenegro (Michaela Conlin), an artist who specializes in reconstructing facial features and crime scenes, is Brennan’s earthy and bawdy best friend; “the bug guy,” conspiracy theorist Dr Jack Hodgins (TJ Thyne), is an expert on insects, spores and minerals; and Dr Camille “CAM” Saroyan (Tamara Taylor), the streetwise and centred coroner, must wrangle all the geniuses under her purview. Lending his professional expertise to Brennan and Booth is Dr Lance Sweets (John Francis Daley), a brilliant young psychologist who is equally adept at profiling murderers and providing “couples therapy” to Booth and Brennan.
As Season Five of Bones begins, Booth and Brennan contend with the emotional fallout resulting from the sea-change in their relationship brought about by events at the end of the last series: Brennan’s request to have Booth father her child, as well as the strange, profound – almost psychic – link they shared during Booth’s coma, which left both of them wondering what thoughts and emotions the other is experiencing. While Booth endeavors to get to grips with these unleashed emotions, Brennan insists that the two of them focus their attention and energy on their main job: catching the murderers that no one else can catch.
Bones Season 5 is out now on DVD (£26.99) andBoxset (£94.99).

October 18th :Nicolas Cage takes on a classic film in Bad Lieutenant on Blu-ray…
Out now:
Remakes of classic films are usually synonymous with abject failure, especially when it comes to Nicolas Cage(see The Wicker Man – or, rather…. don’t), so how does he fare when he goes looking into the murder ofan entire illegal immigrant family and also goes off the rails? He’s joined by Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer,Alvin ‘Xzibit’ Joiner, Shawn Hatosy, Jennifer Coolidge, Vondie Curtis-Hall and Fairuza Balk, but no-one really comes out of this with glowing praise.
