Peaky Blinders was a ratings success on BBC2 last year and it was announced today by Caryn Mandabach Productions & Tiger Aspect Productions that the series, starring Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory, is due to return for a second series of the gangster drama on BBC2.
The news follows success for both actors at the 27th Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuels. The ceremony took place on Saturday 25th January, in Biarritz, France. Peaky Blinders picked up three awards in the Série category with Cillian Murphy winning the award for Best Actor, and Helen McCrory winning for Best Actress.
The third award came in the Best Original Soundtrack category with composer Martin Phipps receiving the honour. The awards were collected by Judith Louis of Arte France who recently announced that they had acquired the rights distribute the show in France.
Established in 1987, FIPA is the only international festival that supports all types of programming from fiction and TV series to performing arts, and draws in crowds of filmmakers, students and the public to discover the best programmes of the year.
Series two of Peaky Blinders starts shooting next month and will air on BBC Two in autumn 2014. The star-studded cast includes Cillian Murphy as gang leader Thomas Shelby and Helen McCrory as matriarch Aunt Polly, with new characters and cast to be announced. Written and created by the award-winning Steven Knight, the second series will see the Shelby family expand their empire while maintaining a stronghold in their Birmingham heartland.
