PerfectHome – Dreadful cover version of “Perfect” song

PerfectHome
PerfectHome – Don’t like credit cards? Fancy paying through the nose for items so you spend well over twice the original cost of something, like Brighthouse? Then PerfectHome is the answer, and to add insult to injury, they have a cat performing a terrible cover version of Perfect, which – since it’s a cat – is made to sound like it’s ‘purr-fect’ (sigh)

The original song was a No.1 for twee skiffle band Fairground Attraction back in May 1988, and came from their album, The First of a Million Kisses, and later on the 2013 ‘Best Of’ release.

It seems surprising for singer Eddi Reader to allow this, given how she performed a song on the National Lottery show (Town Without Pity, I think), in June 1996, and then was called upon to press the button to start the draw (even though someone else round the back pushes the action button), and took a swipe at the company who ran the lottery at the time, beginning with their slogan and adding a bit extra, “It could be you! …It’s certainly Camelot(!)”

Hence, you’d think she wouldn’t want to suck on Satan’s shilling after that, but Perfect – which one the Brit Awards 1989 Best Single Award – was using an Asda adverts in the late ’80s and early ’90s, the single was re-released in 1993, and is now used in an advert for PerfectHome.

Update: Thanks to John Douglas who emailed me to confirm that Eddi has no control over the use of the song or any cover versions, and that the copyright is controlled by the songwriter Mark Nevin.

You can visit their site here, and watch the original video, although the advert itself, doesn’t appear to be online.
