Platonic sees two old friends reconnecting, although you know it’s going to be an obvious thing that they won’t did the horizontal mambo.
After a family movie night where, for Sylvia (Rose Byrne – Spirited), her youngest daughter wants to watch The Emoji Movie again, while the son wants to watch John Wick, she finds out that her ex, Will (Seth Rogen – The Super Mario Bros Movie), is getting divorced and her husband thinks she should call him.
However, this leads to the most basic and obvious conversation between them over the course of the night, also taking in an odd moment where Rose goes drinking in a nightclub with her friend, yet they leave about five minutes later because they think they’re too old… I mean, who leaves an unfinished drink?!
Platonic feels like a continuation of the two leads’ Bad Neighbours films, as if they’d split up and then met up again. Given how bad the second one was, for this, I only managed one episode, and it was immensely boring.
Platonic is on Apple TV+ from Wednesday May 24th, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. Three episodes are available at launch, then the others are added weekly.
Thanks to our friends at Apple TV+ for the review screener.
