Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon have been announced for Nintendo 3DS, and are the first installments in the 7th generation of the role-playing Pokemon game series, and will commemorate the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
The three new first-partner Pokemon, which will join Pokemon Trainers on their adventures, are Rowlet, Litten and Popplio. Elsewhere in the games, Solgaleo has the ability of a Full Metal Body (including a jacket?), Lunala has a Shadow Shield. The other characters are Professor Kukui, Lillie – the professor’s mysterious assistant, and Hau, your new friend in Alola, where the game takes place.
The games are set on the tropical islands in the Alola region, composed entirely of islands. IGN’s Joe Skrebels called it “Pokémon’s take on Hawaii”. In fact, in the game, Professor Kukui’s name comes from the kukui, aka the candlenut, the Hawaiian state tree. There’s also a Japanese advert which shows a family flying over the Diamond Head volcanic formation in Honolulu, and arriving at a Hawaiian airport.
