Park Circus
Posted: October 8th, 2010.
Based on the novel Goodbye To Berlin by Christopher Isherwood (author of A Single Man and whose Berlin Stories also inspired Cabaret), I Am A Camera (1955), reminisces about life in Berlin during the 1930s.
Directed by Henry Cornelius, whose previous film Genevieve (1953) won a BAFTA AWARD for Best British Film and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, and boasting a Best Foreign Actress BAFTA AWARD nomination for Julie Harris, the film tells the tale of a young and naive author (Laurence Harvey) who befriends a lively and totally amoral English girl, Sally Bowles (Harris). The two form a close friendship and he thoroughly enjoys her outrageous behaviour. Together they indulge in the freedom and decadence offered by Berlin at the time, but as support for Nazi fascism rises, the city as they know it begins to vanish.
The DVD is released on November 8th and sells on Amazon for £9.99 (RRP £15.99).
