EIDOS UNLEASHES ANIMAL ANARCHY WITH WHIPLASH
Eidos Interactive, one of the worlds leading publishers and developers ofentertainment software announces Whiplash for PlayStation2 and Xbox. Whiplashstars two animal fugitives, Spanx and Redmond, who find themselves chainedtogether as they attempt to escape from an animal product-testing corporation.
The game is being developed by Crystal Dynamic and will be released thisautumn.
Providing an innovative approach to the character-based action genre, Whiplashcombines a unique chain gameplay mechanic with in-depth enemy and environmentinteraction, rich combat and slapstick humour. The result is an engaging gamewhere player choice triggers an unscripted chain of chaotic, humorous events.
Whiplash is set in a high-tech product testing facility where questionableexperiments are conducted on animals. Playing as Spanx, you must use Redmondas a weapon to not only escape, but also to free other enslaved animals andbankrupt the corporation by destroying property.
For example, Spanx uses Redmond to chain whip attackers, as a grappling hookto swing over hazards, or to clog a toilet creating a foul flood to ward offenemies. Working against the twosome are a multitude of baddies ranging fromruthless scientists and unsanitary surgeons, to crooked rent-a-cops and theevil CEO of the corporation.
Todays sophisticated gamers expect more from character-based games thanarbitrary collecting and monotonous platform jumping. Our goal is tore-define this genre by adding relevance and depth to the gameplay while stillremaining highly accessible, says Noah Hughes, lead designer at Crystal Dynamics.
Crystal Dynamics has always been an internal hotbed of innovative ideas andcreativity, says Rob Dyer, president of Eidos Interactive US. Eidos firmlybelieves Whiplash will quench gamers thirst for fresh, original gameplay. The games focus on highly interactive environments, deep combat, mass destruction, and satirical humour along with the ultimate goal of bringing down the manwill appeal to gamers of all ages.
