Experience pure evil on 16th June when Pathe Distribution Ltd releases thesupernatural horror Deathwatch starring Jamie Bell (Billy Elliott), AndySerkis (Lord of the Rings, 24 Hour Party People) and Laurence Fox (The Hole,Gosford Park). This chilling tale of hell on earth is out to rent and buy onDVD (RRP: œ17.99) and VHS (RRP: œ12.99).

In a world surrounded by barbed wire, mud and the smell of death, Allied andGerman troops face each other across northern Europe during WWI. Thousands ofyoung men are already buried in this terrible wasteland; thousands more willdie here before the senseless slaughter ends. Amongst this horror, 16-year-oldPrivate Charlie Shakespeare (Bell), finds himself out of his depth and withoutthe courage to fight next to his fellow soldiers.

After a catastrophic offensive, Shakespeare and the other surviving members ofY-Company find themselves lost in a gas cloud until they find a seeminglydeserted German trench, a claustrophobic maze of blind corners and undergroundtunnels.

Hopelessly caught behind enemy lines and with no communication with their HQ,they dig in, praying for aid to arrive. As tension mounts within the groupand hope of rescue dims they realise that this complex network of trenches hasa power of it’s own.

What they soon discover is that they aren’t alone… and it isn’t a Germansoldier that’s hunting them down. Driven to the edge by the atmosphere of deathand the phantoms they sense around them they turn on each other. OnlyShakespeare, the youngest company member, can see that they are being givenchoices that could lead to their survival or demise…

Private Quinn (Serkis), the unhinged, trophy-hunting dog of war, heads offinto the depths of the trench to confront the potential horror. Keepingmorale up are the caring ‘Doc’ Fairweather (Matthew Rhys, Abduction Club), andthe worldy-wise Sergeant Tate (Hugo Spears, The Full Monty). Stiff-upperlipped Captain Jennings (Fox, The Hole) stirs up angry feelings, and well-meaningtrainee- priest Private Bradford (Hugh O’Conor, My Left Foot, Chocolat)renounces his faith when the pure evil in the trench enters his soul.

What is this horror they face? Is the soil possessed by something even moreterrible than the war that surrounds them, something ancient and unholy? Havecenturies of bloodshed infected the very earth? Is the trench itself alive???
