My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of READY OR NOT 2: HERE I COME!

Ready Or Not 2 Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come takes place directly after the first film, with Grace MacCaullay (Samara WeavingBabylon) finding herself handcuffed to her bed in hospital, since the cops think she’s to blame for all the deaths in the first film – given that she’s the only one left alive.

However, avoiding spoilers, we know from the trailer that she’s not going to jail because she’s back in the clutches of the evil family once again, yet before that happens, when trying to escape from the hospital, the only clothes she has is the blood-soaked dress from the first one. Ewww….

Just at this point, I’ll add that when Grace’s estranged sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton, seen in the 2024 gorefest Abigail, alongside Elon Musk-a-like Kevin Durand, who’s also in this) is called in as her emergency contact, and Grace recalls the events of the first film for her, the film missed a major trick by not showing clips of those deaths/actions, given how (a) the film was 7 years ago, and (b) a lot of people might not even have seen it.

This time round, with Elijah Wood (The Toxic Avenger) as The Lawyer, officiating the games, we get the great David Cronenberg popping up as the head of the household, Chester Danforth, who controls the world, even able to enact a ceasefire in certain parts of the world, with a simple phonecall!

Last time, just one family was involved, but this time there’s SIX, they’re all devil worshippers, and the families council are called together for a meeting for the first time since November 1963… yes, some time back, but necessary this time, since it’s time for another hunt!

Again, all Grace – and now, Faith, and handcuffed together like Channel 4’s recent gameshow – have to do is survive until dawn, but for whoever’s left alive by the end of it all, they will take the High Seat, and can wear the ring which gives infinite worldwide power… make you’ll wonder what they’ll do for a threequel!

I was concerned that whereas the first was very gory and an 18-certificate, the sequel is only a 15… but it’s still even MORE gory at times, so I presume BBFC have moved the goalposts again, allowing such gore for a horror thriller like this, given how it’s clearly a work of fiction and could never happen in reality.

Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come is an absolute hoot, and a worthy sequel, but there’s just a couple of niggles, firstly with the lack of first movie clips as described above (even though they used that film’s closing scene), and when Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse Of The Heart came in, since while this was great to hear, it’s sadly screwed around with, rather than editing it all together so the song can play out directly in full. This is also a problem that happened with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Richard Harris’ version of Macarthur Park.

As an aside, while the Chinese kid in this has a Steamdeck (as do I), I also noted that Miss Newton presses a lift button with her knuckle, not the tip of her finger, just like me. Lift buttons are gross.

Oh, and while the billed title on posters is Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come, as well as when the end credits begin, the title emblazoned onscreen as the film begins is simply, Ready Or Not: Here I Come. Yes, the nerd in me remembered that.

NOTE: There are no mid- not post-credits scenes.

Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come is in cinemas now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
