"Here is a box. A musical box. Wound up and ready to play."

And so begins the soujourn into another fifteen minutes of life in the town of Camberwick Green with plenty of individual characters - and characters they are indeed.

Narrated by Playaway's Brian Cant, this DVD contains 12 episodes from the series, calling in a total of three hours of content, with each episode concentrating on a different icon from the time, including Windy Miller who is a cider drinker and you couldn't help wonder how he didn't manage to twat himself every time he walked into the mill as the wind sails turned; Peter the friendly village postman, getting worried about the impending Consignia lay-offs that will happen 36 years into the future; Doctor Mopp who proved - like Eastenders' Doctor Legg - that each town only has ONE doctor; and Mrs Honeyman, Camberwick Green's answer to Dot Cotton, gossipping away.

It's a fantastic thing to see classic TV series appearing on DVD in this way. I'm not sure how many episodes were made, but you can't turn your nose up at 3 hours of vintage footage for a penny under a tenner.

The twelve episodes cover stories for: Peter the Postman, Windy Miller, Mr Crockett, Dr Mopp, Mr Murphy, Mrs Honeyman, PC McCarry, Mr Carraway, Farmer Bell, Paddy Murphy, Captain Snort and Roger Varley.

The programme is presented in 4:3 fullscreen and the print has many a scratch on it but nothing you don't expect and it certainly doesn't put you off for those who were big fans.

The sound is in mono which comes across clearly enough.

There are no extras, but the menu is animated and scored with the 'busy' music from the series, various characters walking about in the background and the episode titles appearing as ice-cream cornets on Toni's ice-cream stand. There is one chapter per episode, so 12 in all, but no subtitles.

Don't worry about the overall score. With a disc like this, the price and content score are all you should concern yourself with.
