Tucker will earn $20 million against 20% of gross, and his deal comes with asecond-picture commitment for the same salary on a film to be determinedlater. The actor has given up script approval as long as the final draftmatches what Nathanson pitched, adds the trade.
Chan will get around $15 million against 15% of gross, but he will also ownthe film’s distribution rights in China and Hong Kong.
Ratner will get an increase in the upfront part of the $5 million-against-5%gross deal he had on Rush Hour 2.
Nathanson, who scripted the last film, will be paid seven figures to writethe third instalment.
‘New Line’ has the option to greenlight the film by May, based on scriptapproval and a budget the studio hopes won’t exceed $120 million. Thatgreenlight would trigger pay-or-play deals for the director and the twostars.
The film will begin shooting next summer in the US and Paris and will be oneof the studio’s big summer movies for 2007.
TRAILERS Superman Returns – Teaser 1(weblink)Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
No, it’s Superman.
Of course it is. So, what’s Supes up to then?
He’s about to resurrected by Bryan Singer (X-Men 2), in a new movie that’sset 5 years after the events of Superman II.
Before Superman III?
Er, actually they’re just ignoring Superman III and IV.
Good idea! So how does the movie look?
The teaser does a good job of letting people know Superman is back nextyear, but not much beyond that. There are some atmospheric scenes of theKent farm, the Daily Planet, plus a few glimpses of Superman taking off,Clark Kent leaping across a cornfield, and standing above the planet beforeflying down through the atmosphere.
Wow, sounds cool!
As teasers go, it’s not bad. It beats a few seconds of music and a logo, anyway! What’s even better is that the teaser uses some of John Williams’music from 1978’s Superman (not the theme tune, sadly) and a Marlon Brandovoiceover.
Excellent! The Man Of Steel is back!
Yep, next summer…
