Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege: On the face of it, it’s quite a fun sort-of Ghosts N Goblins-type platformer game from the ’80s, but then you remember how crazy-hard that game was.
Here, I got to level 5 (of 21) without too much bother, but then it was IMPOSSIBLE!
I saw someone else’s playthrough where they obtained the halo, which I also found after following their advice – since it offers some degree of protection from everything that’s out to get you, even if it’s not 100%. However, I still fluffed it up along the way, and got stuck at the same point.
The graphics are on-point to evoke the feeling from that era, as is the stunning sountrack, but OH, the game’s an absolute bloody pain beyond that, since the controls feel quite clunky, and just a slight trip-up and you’re toast. And games are meant to be fun… NOT a royal pain.
Sorry, but I stuck at this for 90 minutes and the frustration was overwhelming. In theory, if an authentic ’80s experience was what the programmers aimed for, then yes, they got it right… but it’s still annoying. Still, if you want a go, it’s less than a tenner, so worth a punt.
Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege is out now on PC/Steam for just a tenner, although there’s a 10% discount at the time of posting, so it’s worth a punt.
