Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen sees Rachel (Camila Morrone – The Night Manager Series 2) and Nicky (Adam DiMarco) getting married, but things are clearly not going to go too well, otherwise the title wouldn’t be as it is…
Starting off with “5 days until I do”, with a road trip on the way to his parents’ house, after some random chat from Nicky about how Larry Poole, the founder of a frozen custard shop, killed 3 women… hmm… strange opening gambit.
And it all rather trundles alongo until they stop off along the way, in the middle of nowhere, chancing upon a car frozen solid, but with the occupants gone, having left a baby inside on its own, and expecting the locals to help call the cops as something’s clearly very amiss.
And with almost everyone acting creepy, I see I’m not the only one who sometimes has their keys at the ready, just in case you need to strike out at a potential baddie…
Naturally, on arrival, Nick has family members who act weird, including the batshit mental Jennifer Jason Leigh (Crime 101) as the batshit mental mother-in-law, making Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen feel like a ton of Stephen King moments thrown at you in one go, plus a load of jump-scares added into the mix to seemingly beef things up a bit, but then again, overall, it does just feel ‘weird for the sake of weird’.
Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.
