The Sooty Show had been running for yearsbefore Harry Corbett passed over the baton to his son Matthewand the first episodes to appear on DVD feature those that centre onSweep Superdog, in which the crime-busting dog puts paid toevil villains… well, they’re not that evil.

This disc features six episodes: In Superdog and the Comedian he hasto defeat his old enemy, The Comedian, played by Derek Deadman, Bouncersin which runner beans make Soo run, while spring greens make Sweep bounce; andHot Stuff places Sweep in the guise of a fireman, making his shoot thewater from the hose over Matthew every time he sees smoke or a fire.

In Sweep’s Family, the entire clan arrive for a big party, Soo and Sootydiscover that his nose makes a sound in Honking Nose and, finally,Sweep tries to pretend he’s not well, so can escape doing his homework, inSwinging the Lead.

The picture is in the original 4:3 fullscreen, with occasional pixellationgetting in the way. I could not determine the average bitrate given to what’sbeen done with the disc and they’ve also disabled the bookmarks!

The sound is in mono, as far as I know, but is always clear.

There aren’t any subtitles but the disc does have a neat animated menu with theclassic Sooty theme tune in full and the chapter selection allowing one foreach episode, all of which run for around 20 minutes.

The only extra is a 2-minute sing-a-long-a-Sooty about matches. Well, Sootydoesn’t sing, but… you get the idea.
