My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of THE ASSASSIN on AMAZON PRIME VIDEO!

The Assassin

The Assassin puts Keeley Hawes (Crossfire) in the unlikely situation of being a hitwoman, albeit retired in the present day, in Greece.

Going back to Bulgaria, 1994, in her early days of hitwomaning, where she learns she’s up the duff with the forthcoming Edward (Freddie Highmore).

However, ten years after calling it a day, her handler, Damian (Richard DormerThe Day Of The Jackal), calls. So, just when she thinks she’s out, they pull her back in! Yes, she’s wanted for one last job. But has she still got the bottle?

Well, the premise is that she didn’t, meaning that now, SHE is the target. Still, if it all seems unlikely (and it is), Ms Hawes DID voice the ever-resourceful Lara Croft in a number of Tomb Raider videogames!

David Dencik (No Time To Die) also gets his to make his mark as computer genius Jasper, but since he’s in prison for crimes not yet established, he has to survive through that task, first.

Meanwhile, early on, there’s an utterly ridiculous wedding scene, where a sniper tries to kill her, but gets all the guests had instead. How stupid! As such, while The Assassin has all the script quality of The Mallorca Files with cheesy dialogue, it’s bollocks, but moderately entertaining bollocks.

It’s not terrible, but I’ve seen far better. Still, it’s not surprising that The Assassin has largely just been plopped onto Prime Video without much fanfare, and even the PR blurb never listed a specific date for it, prior to release; and even when you Google for it, it’s way down in the search results!

The Assassin is on Prime Video now.

It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but if it is in future, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
