The Kenny Everett Video Show on DVD – November 19th

The Kenny Everett Video Show
The Kenny Everett Video Show is coming to vide… I mean, DVD. I was a huge fan of Kenny Everett when he was on TV, and I was bedazzled by the video graphics techniques he’d use 🙂

I’m pretty sure I still have my Sid Snot 12″ disc in green vinyl, so must try ang dig out it. I even remember the New Year specials in this boxset, and the time when I was at a friend’s house and they switched over as he was just about to gunk Bernard Manning, so he could watch Big Ben! (as if we’d never seen that before!) Not that I carry a grudge, or anything 😉

But about this boxset, and Kenny Everett blasted his way onto television in 1978 with The Kenny Everett Video Show having carved a successful and tumultuous career on radio that spanned the likes of pirate station Radio London, BBC Radio 1 and Capital Radio. Alongside comedy writers Barry Cryer and Ray Cameron, they crafted 35 episodes of pure mania for enthralled TV audiences across the nation.

Now, for the first time ever, all episodes are being released – for most this will be their DVD debut! Please see the attached press release attached for the DVD release on 19th November.

The four series and specials were a hedonistic mix of sketches, musical interludes and performances with Kenny’s characters including Sid Snot, Cupid Stunt and Captain Kremmen all featuring alongside huge music star guests and performances from David Bowie, Bonnie Tyler, The Boomtown Rats, The Police and many many more.

Kenny was a unique voice in British entertainment with a love of risqué comedy that often coveted him his fair share of controversy along the way, with various firings from radio stations, he did not let himself be shackled by any studio corporation constraints.

He was instrumental in the success of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody in 1975 having ‘unintentionally’ debuted the single on his radio show, going on to play it 14 times across one weekend! Kenny gained UK Chart success himself too with single Snot Rap, sung by Sid Snot and Cupid Stunt, peaking at no.9 in 1983.

His personal life, he came out in the mid 80s, and friendships with the likes of The Beatles and Freddie Mercury often hit the headlines too, as well as the more recent revelation of an infamous trip he took to the Vauxhall Tavern with Freddie, Cleo Rocos and Princess Diana in the late ’80s. Kenny sadly succumbed to AIDS-related illnesses in 1995 aged just 50, but this comic genius left a prolific legacy and influence over many British entertainers today.

The Kenny Everett Video Show is released on November 19th on DVD. Check out the full packshot below.
