My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of CHARLI XCX’S THE MOMENT!

The Moment The Moment sees popular music singer Charli XCX playing a slight fictionalised version of herself.

It’s September 2024, she’s just had a “Brat summer” – which I understand relates to her album of the same name as that first word. Personally, I couldn’t name a single song of her’s, but I go and see a lot of films.

She thinks that now the summer is over, brat is a bit cringe, and wants to quickly drop it, similar to how Bowie dropped the Ziggy Stardust character after a year (my reference, and not her’s, since I doubt she’s heard of him), but Atlantic Music executive, Tammy Pitman (Rosanna ArquetteThe Big Blue Version Longue) wants to keep it going in order to produce a concert movie.

Alexander Skarsgård (Pillion) plays overbearing stage director Johannes, who frequently clashes with Charli, and even Kylie Jenner pops up at one point as herself, but I had no idea who she was, anyway.

The Moment is a fly-on-the-wall mockumentary attempting the style of BBC’s W1A and forthcoming Twenty Twenty Six – even bringing in Alex Macqueen from that sphere – but is nowhere near as good.

Along the way, it’s intertwined with clips of Stephen Colbert trying to be funny – for some reason, Charli doing a Vogue photoshoot “What’s in my bag?” (crisps in mine), her putting everyone’s nose out of joint and being especially unlikeable – especially to an Ibiza herbal specialist, and promoting a bank card only for “queer people”, whatever that means. There’s ‘gay’ and ‘straight’. That’s it. Nothing else. None of this ‘pronouns’ bollocks.

On the plus side, The Moment features end credits in the style of a teletype printer, which I haven’t seen done before, but beyond that, it’s pretty pointless and I don’t know why it was made. I could’ve had a lie-in that day.

NOTE: There are no mid- nor post-credit scenes.

The Moment is in cinemas now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
