The Other Bennet Sister tells us it’s ‘period drama’ time again.
It feels like Pride And Prejudice, but as remade in a bad version of Acorn Antiques, where Mr Bingley is on his way… Maybe Mr Bradford was unavailable?
Richard E Grant and Ruth Jones couldn’t manage to sire a male heir, and out of all of the girls, Mary Bennet (Ella Bruccoleri – Down Cemetery Road) is designated the ‘honour’ of being dowdy and a bit frumpy, simply because she won’t have the men flocking at her feet.
It’s frowned upon for a woman to wear glasses, in a time where women are barely thought of as human unless they can bag a rich bloke to marry. As such, you just want Mary to punch all of her snobby sisters into next week!
There’s even a debate of whether ‘less’ or ‘fewer’ should be used in a sentence. I’d be happy if people could just get your/you’re and there/their/they’re right. AND stop using ‘lol’ at the end of a sentence.
Everyone laughs all ‘jolly hockey sticks’, and as someone who tried to get into the 2005 Pride And Prejudice but struggled to keep my eyes open, The Other Bennet Sister is doing nothing for me. That may be, as they say, a ‘me problem’, but I can’t fall into a catatonic state for the rest of the day.
Still, it’s better than that awful Gavin And Stacey Finale!
The Other Bennet Sister begins tonight on BBC1 at 8pm.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
Currently, the first five of ten episodes will be on BBC iPlayer.
