The Woman In Cabin 10 is set on a boat, but everyone’s taking a busman’s holiday for this outing.
Laura Blacklock (Keira Knightley – Black Doves) is a highly-respected journalist who covers big stories, and recently had a bad one after a woman took her final steps after simply talking to her.
This time round, she she has an easier assignment, covering the maiden voyage for a big posh expensive yacht owned by philanthropist Richard Bullmer (Guy Pearce – The Brutalist), whose architect wife Annie (Lisa Loven Kongsli – Zack Snyder’s Justice League) is very ill.
Along with the ride are tech entrepreneur Adam (Daniel Ings – The Gentleman), rock star Danny Tyler (Paul Kaye – Seize Them!), and hoity-toity couple Thomas (David Morrissey – Daddy Issues) and Heidi Heatherley (Hannah Waddingham – Smurfs)… oh, and because reasons, Laura’s ex, Ben (David Ajala – Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue).
However, while normally residing in cabin 8, one night, Laura accidentally goes into the wrong room and sees… yes, a blonde woman in cabin 10, but like the mad script, have they gone overboard? That’s what Laura seems to think, although when it comes to any trace of this guest, she is the urban spaceman… She doesn’t exist!
Well, that’s what they want Laura to think – and that there was never anyone assigned to that room in the first place, but because she’s a curious old Hector, she can smell their BS a nautical mile off.
The Woman In Cabin 10 is like one of those Channel 5 nightly dramas. Nothing makes sense, and everything is batshit crazy, and you’re just sticking with it to see whether it turns out exactly like you imagine, or whether it might throw a curveball.
Naturally, you’d bet your house on the former – along with everyone else’s houses in the street. Of course, if it DOES turn out to be the latter outcome, then you’ve got a very expensive set of building purchases to make.
The Woman In Cabin 10 is also billed as a psychological thriller, but it’s more like one of those ’90s “psychological thrillers” when they have about as much artistic validity as a serious of musical farts.
Oh, and no-one in my street has to change abode any time soon. I’m just stunned this took four people to bring a novel to the screen… or even that there WAS a novel in the first place, because it feels like Grok took 30 seconds to spit it out. Maybe it did, and everyone went for a long lunch, instead.
NOTE: There are NO mid- or post-credits scenes.
The Woman In Cabin 10 is on Netflix from today, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
