Together opens with Tim and Millie (real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie – Love Lies Bleeding, and Promising Young Woman, respectively) moving away from their friends, to a house in the woods, as it’s closer to her workplace as a teacher, although it’s not a fun task to find that the stench within is a group of dead rats in their lounge’s light fitting!
However, while out and about, exploring the area, the pair fall into a cave, realise they’re stuck down there for the night, and have little recourse but to drink the water. EEK!
Next morning, they find their legs slightly meshed together, and manage to separate them, but it does leave a bit of a scar. Thus follows a lot of weird things happening… I’ll leave a lot of them for you to discover, but one comes when Millie wakes to find her hair getting tighter at the back, only to find that Tim’s accidentally eating it!
They’re like magnets being drawn… together, and it gets worse at night, when they’re tired and the body takes over in gross and contorted ways.
Together is very engaging, with a few moments that’ll make you wince, although it is quite slow to get going. However, without giving spoilers, a lot of films that aren’t trying to spawn a franchise really struggle to come up with an ending, but this one really does pull that off (no pun intended)
Additionally, while this film features a particular track I won’t spoil here, and the trailer featured The Turtles’ Happy Together, I felt it also needed Rick Astley’s Together Forever!
Finally, this film is subject to a potential copyright infringment lawsuit, which I’ll describe here, but I’ve put it behind a spoiler header, as it’s best to watch the film first, prior to reading this:
NOTE: There are no mid- or post-credits scenes.
Together is in cinemas from August 15th (I saw it on a Scream Unseen preview), but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
