The first-person shooteris one of my favourite style of PC and console games, but when it comes toa game like Unreal Championship, I find there’s an element of whatfeels like laziness. Why? Because games like the original Unrealcontained a multiplayer as an additional feature to the exceptional single-playergame, not the main reason for their existence.

For those whose tastes are satisfied fully by this Xbox title, know that itcontains over 25 characters to choose from, over 25 arenas and locations inwhich you can go shooting your load over, and gameplay modes includingDeath Match, Capture the Flag, Domination 2.0 and Bombing Run.

game picThat said, the graphics are something the developers have certainly not beelazy with. They matchHalowith ease and I find are best experienced with the Capture the Flag rounds,as you must traverse the location copiously. Look at the swaying blades ofgrass close-up in the first one and the volcanoes in the next. Astounding.

Sound comes fantastically in Dolby Digital 5.1, with effects hitting youfrom all directions, loudly, plus playability that’s as exacting as you’dexpect from such a title.

Certainly nothing to complain about on the three scores in this paragraph.

game picAt the moment I can only play the single-player deathmatches, etc, on the Xbox, but I do intend to get Xbox Live and when I do I’ll take another look at thistitle, but I still hope that the forthcoming PC release, Unreal II: TheAwakening is a return to type of game I know and love.

Until then, you can wonder round dungeons aplenty and blast the hell out ofeach other, but I do question how many more story-free outings we can havelike this.
