Village Idiot is the second in a new series of Play For Today on Channel 5, and the equivalent of HS2 is running through the village of Crosham.
Barbara’s (Phyllis Logan – A Taste for Murder) house is up for a compulsory purchase order, from a company with the acronym “TIT”. Everyone else in the street has gone, but she’s chained herself to the outside of her house.
Now, I’d also do the same – unless they paid me £1m, but given how the weather looks inclement, surely, she’s better off inside with a cup of tea? I know I’d prefer that.
Meanwhile, much young Peter (Max Harwood – Black Mirror: Joan Is Awful) is tasked by TIT to get her out of there, but given he’s her grandson, in reality, there’d be a conflict of interest and this would not be happening. Still, it’s a TV drama…
Obviously, no spoilers as to how things turn out – even though I’m posting this after it’s aired, given that a lot of people watch on catch-up – but don’t expect too many surprises. It’s a bit of knockabout fun, and far from Shakespeare in the writing, or Michael Mann’s Heat when it comes to acting and confrontations.
As for Peter saying how he used to be insulted with “Little gay Peter“, but now admits he’s “queer”… What’s the difference between ‘gay’ and ‘queer’?
Village Idiot is now online, and all Play For Today episodes can be watched online at My5.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
