Wicked For Good finally brings this two-part musical to a close, even though somehow, the on-stage version takes just two-and-a-half hours to complete, yet the films total 4 hours and 56 minutes…
Glinda (Ariana Grande – Don’t Look Up) is back and being told to life everyone’s spirits in a University where no-one actually seems to be doing any studying, and spends more time ‘obsesstulating’ about her new bubble transport thing, where she can “Tap to bubble”, and off she floats. Well, it is the Amazon Black Friday sales, so why not splash out?
NOTE: I will discuss some basic plot points – but nothing major. Still, if you don’t want to know anything at all, you can skip to the score, later on.
Meanwhile, despite being seen as “The Wicked Witch of the West”, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo – Luther: The Fallen Sun) actually has a positive purpose, in wanting to bring the Wizard down, because he’s not so wonderful after all and, instead, a bit of a bastard. Hence, she etches “Our Wizard lies”, but that’s changed by Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh – Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) into “Oz dies”, before anyone sees it – that last aspect, itself, being quite a stretch, as there’s a lot of people in the scene.
Perhaps Elfie should’ve written, “Wizard’s a cunt”. That would’ve been more difficult to quickly adapt.
At the Singapore premiere of 'Wicked: For Good', an online personality, Johnson Wen, jumped a barricade and pulled Ariana Grande into a forceful hug.
Her co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly intervened to shield her, and security escorted Wen away. pic.twitter.com/YNAkQVTjtT

Along the way, Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey – Jurassic World Rebirth) tells Glinda he’ll only marry her because it’ll “make her happy”, the CGI animals are planning to leave Oz because they can’t fight the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum playing Jeff Goldblum, again), Michelle Yeoh looks absolutely bored to be there, Elphaba is black & green – like an After Eight mint, and Boq (Ethan Slater) fancies Nessarose (Marissa Bode), and it appears she feels the same way, yet his travel plans in the next scene are immediately knackered thanks to her banning munchkins from travelling.
Apparently, this is explained by her now wanting him to leave, but to me, this is the problem with some of the writing in this film. There’s such ridiculous conflicts from one scene to the next that feels like it was written by different people, each playing the ‘Exquisite Corpse’ game, where one person draws part of a body then folds it over, then person 2 draws the next part and folds it over, and so on, and when the whole body is revealed, you’re thinking “WTF does that look like?”
And even more strangely, at the end…
On the plus side, Wicked For Good looks more expensive than its $150 production budget, and will no doubt do as well as the first film’s $759m. In fact, that budget – per film – is quite conversative for Hollywood, these days. Look at Red One‘s crazy $250m!
Additionally, despite casting a Dorothy, you never actually see the actress’ face. I can imagine that’s because it would’ve spawned a million memes about the fact she’s not Judy Garland, but then only Judy Garland could have been Judy Garland.
I also understand there are 5 books in the the Wicked series. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get more, very soon, and there’s even a theme park planned. However, if we get the same two leads, Ariana needs to eat something, and Cynthia has been working out in the gym way too much for her skinny frame, as shown in that video of the nutter who jumped out at them. And why’s her head shaved? It’s winter, and you’ll need a woolly hat!
Wicked For Good is in cinemas now, and is available to buy on 4K Blu-ray, 4K Blu-ray Limited Edition Steelbook 1, 4K Blu-ray Limited Edition Steelbook 2, Blu-ray and DVD.
NOTE: There’s no mid- nor post-credits scenes.
You can also buy a load of Wicked merchandise, a ton of Wicked LEGO, Wicked: The Grimmerie, a Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Hit Broadway Musical (Hardback), as well as the paperback novel.
There’s also the CD Soundtrack and Vinyl Soundtrack.
