My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of ZERO DAY on Netflix!

Zero Day Zero Day is the term given to the day when the USA is hit by a massive cyber-attack, which causes problems for planes trains and automobiles, and one guy didn’t get his Amazon parcel! …probably.

Former President George Mullen (Robert De NiroKillers Of The Flower Moon) has commissioned Anna Sindler (Hannah GrossJoker) to write his memoirs. We don’t know exactly when he served, but it’s mentioned that he was in the top job in the ’70s, had just one term, was considered likeable, and De Niro obviously hates Donald Trump, so he’s basically Jimmy Carter.

When the news breaks about the effect Zero Day has had, where everything on every device – as well as in the real world – went screwy for exactly one minute before being restored, some of this news is coming from CNN, so, it could be complete nonsense 😉

However, during this time, the words “This will happen again” come up for everyone. So, who’s responsible? Probably Virgin Media…

With current Madam President Evelyn Mitchell (Angela BassettDamsel) possibly not being 100% up to the job, someone’s required to do a photo op on the ground, to try and reassure the public. This reminds me of the awful Grenfell Tower tragedy in London, in June 2017. The following day, then-Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn turned up to comfort the bereaved, while then-Prime Minister Theresa May didn’t bother to show her face until the Friday, and even then, she hid in her car for a while until the crowd dispersed long enough for her to disappear into a nearby building! Utter disgrace.

Hence, they need someone to Be More Corbyn, and Mullen proves such a hit in calming an angry audience that he’s hired to run the Zero Day Commission, even if that might run the risk of bringing in martial law, lockdowns and so on, while they try to figure it all out.

So far I’ve seen the first two of the six episodes, and it’s difficult to get things across without talking about certain elements, so in true Secret Service style, I might just put ‘redacted’ marks all over my review 😉

Zero Day also has a great supporting cast with Matthew Modine as Speaker of the House Richard Dreyer, Lizzy Caplan (Fatal Attraction (2023)) as Alexandra Mullen, a Congresswoman who thinks her Dad’s return to politics will get in the way of her career, and the brilliant Dan Stevens (Cuckoo) playing another non-Brit, this time as conspiracy theorist Evan Green, who sounds like GB News on steroids!

But if you’re wondering who’s really behind it all, then there’s a bigger mystery to solve first, since with Jesse Plemons (Kinds Of Kindness) as Mullen’s Chief of Staff, Roger Carlson, I note that Mr Plemons has lost a great deal of weight, recently, and since I do need to do the same, what’s his secret?

Additionally, there’s Mark Ivanir (Away (2020)) as the mysterious Natan, and an organisation known as GRU, but wasn’t he in the Despicable Me movies?

Seriously, it’s a decent pot-boiler, which dripfeeds what you need to know at the right time, and is setting the scene nicely for the drama to come, and I’ll certainly get into the rest of it soon.

Plus, De Niro certainly maintains the height of his career, still not slowing down even in his ’80s, and in his forthcomin
g movie, The Alto Knights, he plays not one, but TWO roles!

Oh, and obviously no spoilers about anything, but any time anyone says something major-plot-worthy, I want to hear, “DA! DA! DAAAAAAAAAAAAA!” 😀

Score so far: 8/10

Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.

Zero Day is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Netflix from today.
