6Souls on PS5 – The DVDfever Review – Pixel-art platformer

6Souls 6Souls is a new 2D pixel-art platformer where you’ll play as both Jack and his dog, Butch, stumbling across the abandoned Clifford Castle, and will learn secrets and the fate of the Clifford family, and you’re off in an attempt to release souls and negotiate incredibly tricky platforms, at times.

I’m glad you don’t have to complete each chapter in one go, as they’re each broken into around 10 levels – and you can redo each one individually. However, if you’ve collected a coin or bacon within it already, and redo that level, the item will be greyed out. That’s rather annoying when making gameplay videos, since I had to redo one in that circumstance, and it looks daft going to collect such a thing, but I had to show where it’s available to be picked up.

The game looks gorgeous, and has a cool ’80s-style synth soundtrack but, however, as I got into the fourth chapter of the game, the fact I’m spending forever as I die multiple times within each level, in an attempt to beat it, this game is becoming less fun and more irritating.

So, call this more a ‘first impressions’ than a review, if you like, but my nerves can only get so frayed. You can see my gameplay of the first three chapters in the videos below.

6Souls is released on December 3rd on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One/Xbox Series X/S from their respective stores.
